In general latin american immigrants are much more likely to be undocumented with figures of 66 percent for those from guatemala 60 percent from mexico 54 percent from brazil 50 percent from el salvador and 41 percent from ecuador compared with just 13 percent for china 23 percent for korea and 12 percent across all other countries. The 20th century began with the country in the midst of the greatest wave of immigration in its history the century ended in the midst of another period of high immigration greater in numerical terms but smaller in its relative impact than the immigration of 100 years earlier us immigration at the beginning of the 21st century .
